WASHINGTON, DC. (April 1, 2020) - State and local government veterinarians are now eligible for the same professional liability insurance protection as federal employees at the same price. Similar to federal veterinarians, state and local veterinarians primarily provide services within their respective agriculture, defense, environmental, and health and human services agencies/departments.
In collaboration with the National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians (NASPHV) and FEDS Protection, the National Association of Federal Veterinarians (NAFV), through its State-Affiliate membership, is now offering to state and local government veterinarians, the same professional liability insurance that federal veterinarians have access to. This insurance covers the administrative, civil and criminal exposures arising out of the performance of governmental job functions performed by state and local veterinarians.
In March 2020, NAFV unveiled new affiliate categories that provide access to most NAFV benefits for public practice veterinarians working outside of the Federal Government, including access to insurance customized to the needs of government veterinarians. The staff at FEDS Protection has demonstrated their unique understanding of the professional exposures of public health veterinarians and what it takes to meet their needs. Through this effort, we are excited to extend such coverage to other government veterinarians, who are important counterparts to Federal Veterinarians in the nation’s overall public and animal health and food safety infrastructures. In adding state and local veterinarians to the federal veterinary insurance pool, we have made it possible for them to access this PLI at an affordable price.
